A special thanks to all of the workers, participants and car buffs who shared their time with us to make this a successful event last summer. 175th Anniversary Celebration

This is it!  2008 – Our 175th Anniversary!

Here we are reaching out for God’s continued blessing in this particular place, because in 1833, a few pioneering spirits, who had settled along the river in Indian country, decided to form a church! Part of our contemporary history in the Presbytery of the Western Reserve is to see fellow churches merge or disappear completely. We, however, as an institution, have endured serious struggles and overcome precarious hardships to continue as a faith community to offer our gifts of mission and witness to God’s providence and the life that is ours through the ministry and sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ. These are strong reasons to give thanks and to offer opportunities for fellowship, celebration and concern for ways in which to continue a faithful and meaningful witness now and in the years to come. What are we doing right? How can we improve? These are important questions to ponder during an anniversary celebration.

There are several dates that you will want to note in your new calendar:  June 22, Presbyterian Women will present a Bridal Fashion Show. August will see the construction of the Church Float for Pioneer Days. October 5, Bob Howell, a recreation director with a track record in helping the inexperienced enjoy square dancing, will lead an inter-generational, fun event. November a pot luck is planned. December, our new Music Director is organizing an Evening of Carols and Readings , using our choir and outside soloists. We are in the process of trying to schedule the Morning Star Baptist Church Gospel Choir for a January 2009, concert. February, the gospel bluegrass band Waking Up Tillie will return to First Presbyterian to share their musical talent with us.  The finale for March 2009, is a Big, Wonderful, Musical Offering with participation by area instrumentalists, and choruses.

175th Anniversary Event
Nostalgic Bridal Fashion Show
- Sunday, June 22 – 7:00 pm

This event will feature brides of the past and the present and will showcase bridal gowns, bridesmaid dresses, mother of the bride, grandmother of the bride/groom and a delightful flower girl.

Special music will add to the occasion with Faith Ramsey, soloist; Rachel Darroch, flutist; and Ginny Roedig, organist.

A wedding reception will follow in the W. P. Gross Community Room where albums, pictures and other memorabilia will be on display.  Many more gowns will be shown in the parlor.

Mark your calendars and plant to attend this beautiful even of “special remembrances.”  The Breckenridge bus will be available to residents.

The Committee is also looking for an outstanding Christian Speaker to offer an Inspirational Event giving an assessment of the Contemporary Church and its Mission Today and To Come. If you have a particular leader you want to hear, share his or her name with the Committee. Please know that the Anniversary Committee is eager to hear your suggestions and desires. We will soon publish a list of tasks we hope some of you will want to undertake in order to personally participate and improve the final product. We are open for additional suggestions, and those of you who have historical knowledge and stories to share, please do so!

Thanks to our Office Volunteers

Have you ever noticed how the sanctuary is straightened up each week? Or wondered how the worksheets in the worship bags get changed each week?  Without our valuable office volunteers, many things around the church would not get done.  With that in mind, we wish to acknowledge and thank the following people for all their continual dedication, commitment, and hard work:  Faith:  mails out the sermons and bills, changes the cassette tapes that record the worship service, folds the newsletters; Sue:  enters in the Christian Education attendance, prepares the shepherds’ bags; Rowena:  straightens the sanctuary; Charlene:  changes the worship bags each week; Nelson & Barb:  fold the weekly bulletin, add into the bulletin any inserts; Vi:  enters in the attendance off the friendship registers, puts the name tags on the board; Nelson:  helps count the money on Mondays and takes the money to the bank; Sandy:  always ready to fill in if extra help is needed. And lastly, the wonderful group of people who come each month to do the newsletter:  Ruth, Betty & Bob, and Nelson & Barb.  In addition, all these people help by answering the phone and doing any other job that may arise.  They are always willing to go that extra mile to help out.  A big heartfelt thank you to all of you, you are invaluable assets to our church family.
